Vegetarianism and the Environment
By: Essam Almajid
In the article, “Vegetarianism and the Environment”, the author Martin Bohn discusses the significance of being a vegetarian and how it impacts the environment in a positive way. Some of the points he makes include how vegetarians reduce the impact the livestock have on the land, how vegetarians conserve energy, and how being vegetarian is more economic and it saves water. All of these factors he says, impact the overall state of our planet and he encourages people to think carefully about the food choices that they make on a daily basis, because these choices can have lasting consequences on our planet.
In his article Martin Bohn explains how the meat industry is harmful to the environment because it uses so much land to raise the animals. He says that vegetarians help prevent this damage by eating green. In addition, he discusses how vegetarianism is very economical compared to a carnivorous lifestyle. Because the animals that produce meat are fed expensive grains, they are more pricey than raw green food. Furthermore, he states that Vegetarians save energy and water because they don’t have their food processed as much and the plants don’t require as much water as the animals.
