Something we hear a lot of in conjunction with
environmental sustainability is EMISSIONS. But what are they? Emissions are
gases and other particles that are released into the atmosphere as a result of
burning fuels and other processes. Mostly, emissions are caused by the fuel we
burn to run our cars, fuel our factories, warehouses and drive consumer
lifestyles. Emissions are an inherent part of life, but they become a problem
when we accumulate too many harmful ones- they start to have a negative impact
on our atmosphere. Harmful emissions can impact everything from the air that we
breathe to the food that we eat. It has been estimated that the average
American produces about 50 tons of CO2 emissions per year. If each person
did one thing to reduce the amount of harmful carbon emissions, that number
would drastically reduce.
This informative video further explains
what we can do nationally, globally and locally to help reduce our carbon
emissions. I found it offered a very clear
and concise explanation of what global warming is and what we
can do to lessen the harmful effects.
