Funding Solutions: Engaging Philanthropy; A resolution to end Homelessness.

See how the Y-Foundation, Finland’s Homes for the Homeless project, reduced homelessness at a record rate!

“The 'Housing First' initiative has made the primary focus of helping homeless people getting them long-term, stable housing.” YLE

The Palm Beach Homeless Coalition raised under half a million dollars between 2012 and 2015 through community fundraising efforts. The group hosted luncheons, a golf tournament, a Walk-A-Thon, and an annual Mayor’s Ball to help support rapid re-rehousing for the homeless community in Palm Beach FL (NAEH 2017).

The capacity for change often depends on how much funding is available. Accessing private resources requires the NGO organization to highlight values that generate genuine interest and awareness from the correct target audience.

Why is this issue, homelessness, important?

Homelessness affects the health and well-being of the entire community.

Homelessness is an economic problem - people without housing consume

public resources rather than generate income.

Addressing Homelessness supports the Social Determinant of Health

(SDOH) goals, increases family stability, and supports economic justice

Typically when an NGO has developed a well-thought-out strategic plan and determined its main goals, they are more likely to attract wealthy philanthropists.

Successful homeless coalitions across America recommend developing a private pool of funds that is not reliant on Federal and State funding. Policy and lawmakers play a pivotal role in providing structural support, and it also takes committed community involvement and effort.

By digging into key elements, the NGO can better understand its audience to gain support and determine it's clear paths to build the organizational and marketing strategy to fund its goals to reduce homelessness. What brings value and why should people care?
