Portland Rescue Mission hosts a program called “Connect”, a three-month program dedicated to helping men and women who are homeless transition to living and working independently. The program provides daily shelter, three meals a day, a community that is alcohol and drug free, gender-separated programs and living quarters, opportunities to participate in community service, trained professionals and dedicated volunteers, and assistance in career planning and job searching, as well as guidance in re-integrating into society in a healthy way. The Connect staff spends one-on-one time with the participants to ensure they are utilizing the resources to their benefit for a smooth transition out of homelessness. All programs are free of charge to make Connect as accessible as possible for those who need it. Beyond their given resources, Connect works with other agencies to provide resources in case management, mental health, counseling, legal needs, and others. I can see this project being a success as they have regulations and rules set that each visitor must abide by.
