How can we help?

Unfortunately, many of us are aware of soil contamination and how it affects our environment in a negative way, but fail to do anything about it. This article details several different ways in which soil contamination can occur and the things that we as humans do to contribute to it. There are however, some simple things that we can do to help alleviate the problem. None of which are difficult to accomplish, they just take some thoughtfulness when we are out and about in our daily lives. Most people can create four pounds of trash in a single day. Recycling whenever possible reduces landfill, which is one way that soil contamination occurs. Using cloth bags when we go to the grocery store helps to reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in landfills also. Planting native plants helps to reduce pesticide usage because native plants thrive in their home environment. Pesticides are another source of soil contamination and they also pollute ground water. Reducing their use is a great way to help fight soil contamination. Raising your own awareness and conscientiousness is key to combating soil contamination.
