MEALS ON WHEELS
By the year 2030, baby boomers will be 65 years or older. The elder population will expand to the point where 1 in every 5 Americans will be elderly. By 2030, older people will outnumber children for the first time in U.S. history. We are already amidst the rectangularization of our population pyramid and there are many seniors today who could use your help. Thats why you should volunteer at Meals on Wheels. A government funded organization, MoW provides hot or cold healthy fulfilling hand cooked meals for seniors who lack the health, mobility, or financials to feed themselves anymore.
The inability to access healthy food is called food insecurity and is afflicting 1 in every 11 seniors in the USA Today. Senior citizens are the fastest-growing food insecure population in the United States. Whether its helping out in the kitchens preparing food or delivering meals to food insecure seniors in need of a hand, your service is greatly needed and appreciated.
As an active volunteer myself, I can personally attest to the gratuity and appreciation of these seniors and suggest that the good feelings of patronage and compassion alone are more than enough to warrant your time. As our country becomes older and older, this problem will only intensify. Fortunately, MoW is a foundational bastion in the war effort against elderly hunger that we can get behind and strengthen with our participation. Other organizations will need to arise in response to this coming problem because Meals on Wheels will not be able to satisfy the demand alone. In the meantime, we can lend a hand where we can volunteer at Meals on Wheels in your local city.
