Communication Technology and It's Role in Helping the Elderly Gain Their Independence
Technology has been a great way to facilitate communication between people. This is true with communicating with those who are elderly and especially elderly that have trouble communicating and doing basic tasks on their own. The rise of newer technologies allows for older adults to gain more independence.
What has been the most helpful for my grandparents is the new advancements in home assistance technology like with the Google Home and Alexa. Text to speech technologies have also been a massive step forward in terms of being able to communicate with my grandparents. Devices that I use include the Dragon speech recognition software which has been useful since my grandparents are both extremely hard of hearing. Both of these are quite simple to set up and operate and have been a major way in helping my grandparents gain their independence.
