The 10 Minute Walk Project

Urban public parks contribute so much to city dwellers. Parks offer a green space for either passive or active enjoyment. Studies have shown that parks greatly increase the vigorous exercise activity of those who live near them. This improves the physical, mental and emotional well being of communities with parks.

For these reasons, a grassroots park-advocacy group began called 10 Minute Walk. They advocate for park accessibility. The group believes that every person living in a non-rural setting should be able to walk to a quality, safe park within 10 minutes from their home. In 2017, mayors from over 200 cities, including the nation's four largest cities, committed to reaching the organization's goal.
