The Bike City

Portland is the bike city. The traffic is terrible so Portland did what Portland knew best, strip streets in downtown from a 3-way to a 2-way lanes, and made more bike paths and lanes for bikers to cycle safely. Portland's streets and bridges are all bicycle-friendly, with wide lanes and paths.  Portland is named Bike City, U.S.A because of the city's bike-themed events, and 315 miles of bikeways.
The Rose City also takes the cake on the nation's highest percentage of bike commuters. So why is it that our city only has a 7% of bicyclists? To me, that percentage is still pretty low.

Portland has limited car-parking. They have though, made bicycling safer by adding their own lanes, lowered car speed limits, but still, people will drive around and around just to find a parking spot, which are very limited. There are, however, plenty of bike racks. In 2011, the bike traffic grew by more than 6 percent. According to portlandbiking.com over 18,000 cyclists cross the Willamette River every day, via the Hawthorne, Steel, Burnside and Broadway bridges. Even the cities public transportation will accommodate to your cycling needs, there are racks on the front of each one to accommodate your two-wheeler, recumbent or electric bike. The only way to make this city run more efficient is if about 3 times as many folks were to cycle to work.
