Portland Streets Are Unsafe for Elders

Source: Portland Bureau of Transportation

One of the reasons why we need to improve our roads is because more people over the age of 65 are dying. According to an article by the Oregonian, more than a quarter of pedestrians that were killed happened to be elders. In response to traffic related deaths, the city of Portland introduced the Vision Zero Action Plan (2016). The objective is to eliminate all deaths and serious injuries involving transportation in the city. There has been some improvement over the past 4 years, however, nothing significant. In 2019, 33 people died on Portland streets and the year isn't over yet. That is why we need to increase awareness of safe driving as Portland is becoming busier by the minute.

Let's help enhance our roads to serve ALL individuals especially our elders.

Here are 4 ways you can support Vision Zero.
