Portland has always been seen as a town with progressive ideas especially when it comes to transportation. With over 5% of Portland population riding their bikes to work everyday, it is easy to see that Portland cares about its city and environment.
Biking to work isn't just good for the environment it is also good for your wallet. On average Portlandians who biked for 30 minutes a day 5 days a week saved about 275$ a year on medical expenses. An obvious cost that was saved in this study was the cost of fuel, On average they saved about 180$ a year on fuel.
With Portland being a very bike friendly city and with traffic getting worse everyday it is no wonder why the biking community is getting bigger and bigger in Portland.
